Lost Forest Follies
Just a short walk into the woods, "The Lost Forest" is an expansion of Aspen Skiing Company's Elk Camp campus located on Snowmass Mountain. The new on-mountain experiences include a treetop canopy zip-line tour, alpine coaster, challenge courses, wine cabin/rest shelter, and expanded trail systems. The Follies are a series of structures designed to support this new programming.
The Alpine Coaster station has a sweeping roofline to echo the Elk Camp Restaurant and, in turn, the rolling topography of the Elk Camp Meadow. The Coaster Station will house the equipment and operation spaces needed by Wiegand Sports and will provide an on-loading and off-loading platform for the venue. The coaster will be operated winter and summer, as well as evenings.
The zip-line tour consists of ten high-flying segments through the trees, ending with an 89-foot-tall rappel tower crafted to reinterpret the surrounding aspen forest. CCY collaborated with Bonsai Design on the tower design.
Adjacent to the tower is Slider’s Cabin, a rest stop for summer hiking and biking, and a wine cabin in the winter. The shelter is clad in siding that hearkens back to the surrounding trees.
Hidden along the tour in a small clearing is a small emergency shelter clad entirely in weathering steel.
